Ice Booms

Worthington leads with cutting-edge debris boom designs, and our latest innovation is the HDPE ODINBoom™ ice boom. Reflecting our commitment to quality materials and design, ODINBoom™ is available in various diameters up to 48'' and standard lengths up to 50 feet, with almost 3'' wall thickness for unmatched durability.

Designed to last 50 years, ODINBoom™ HDPE boasts a corrosion-resistant shell with complete UV protection, perfect for harsh arctic winter conditions.

Experience Superiority - HDPE ODINBoom™ vs. Traditional HDPE Pipe

Unlike traditional black HDPE pipe requiring coating or painting, ODINBoom™ HDPE features a single HDPE wall thickness in two colors. Worthington's confidence in ODINBoom™'s superiority over other HDPE ice booms is evident in our lifetime color warranty!

Ice Boom - TUFFSteel® Pontoons

TuffSteel® Pontoon Ice Boom

Worthington offers legacy steel ice boom designs that take advantage of advancements in materials and composites. Our steel pontoons are commonly used as ice booms in the most formidable climates. Each ice boom system is custom-designed to site-specific conditions.

Sizes range from 18” (46cm) up to 42” (107cm) diameters and unit lengths up to 50-feet (15m). Lifting eyes, underwater curtain extensions, foam fill, drainage, and pressure fittings all signify these as the high quality and durability dam owners have come to expect from Worthington.

The US Army Corps of Engineers Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) has conducted extensive research advanced the industry’s understanding of ice forces and design considerations. Using Worthington’s own experience from 20 years designing log boom systems, and learning from the excellent work of CRREL, Worthington has designed ice boom systems capable of withstanding extreme loads from ice jams and floating sheet ice. Our designs allow the ice boom system to deform and submerge during periods of excessive flow typically as occurs during the spring freshet. Our unique design feature, whereby the boom submerges, prevents the failure of the boom or anchor systems.

Worthington’s ice boom design experts will help you to find the right balance of cost and effectiveness where ice boom investments are critical. We will guide you through the entire process from concept of design, boom layout, geometry, anchor systems, design submission, delivery and installation. Legacy steel ice boom designs simply don’t offer long-term value and return on investment. When it comes to preventing frazil ice buildup and damage from sheet and anchor ice, there is no effective substitute for the waterway barrier solutions offered by Worthington Waterway Barriers.
