TUFFSign™
Floating Dam Warning and Public Safety Signage
Built for Safety & Visibility
TUFFSign™ was developed to address the higher rates of fatalities and injuries at ungated overflow dams and especially at low head dams where a safety barrier with minimal debris retention is desired. Combining high quality floats with FERC Dam Signage. Needs signs in high flow rivers above low head dams, then TUFFSign is what you’ve been looking for.
-
TUFFSign Floats were developed to address a need for signs on lakes and rivers where a boom line is not required and where standard buoys are too small.
-
Low Head Dams are called “Drowning Machines” and for good reason. Traditional buoys are often ripped out during high flows and provide limited signage space.
No More. TUFFSign is designed to effortlessly slide through turbulent and high flows without flipping or catching debris and the high buoyancy allows for large signs that effectively warn of the dangers.
-
Worthington uses the leading best practices for dam signage include FERC Public Safety Guidelines and USACE EP-310 guidance.
Worthington signs get the message to those who need it by defining the danger and informing of the action required.
-
Chose from thick-walled ODINBoom HDPE, high buoyancy BoatBuster floats or nose-cone floats specially fabricated to effortlessly float in high flow and turbulent conditions.
USE CASES
North Carolina Overflow Dam
Lake Bowen encompasses 1,534 acres and contains approximately 33 miles of shoreline. Along with providing an adequate water supply, Lake Bowen offers many recreational activities like boating and fishing. Keeping these recreational enthusiasts from approaching the undated 41ft high overflow dam is a TUFFSign barrier with signage and safety ropes.
Indiana Low Head Dam
The local authorities in Indiana had a problem. A dangerous low head dam was located around a bend in a river popular among the local kayak and canoe clubs. They turned to Worthington to provide robust floating signs to warn of the dam and direct boaters to portage routes.
Ontario High Flow River Signs
Not far from Niagara Falls is a river system below a series of Hydroelectric power plants. Flows are high and turbulent. Submerged weirs present hidden dangers. Worthington designed special nose cone high flow sign floats for mid-stream placement.
Public Safety Barriers
In large reservoirs and rivers, the need for reliable floating signs able to withstand strong winds, high waves, and fast currents is met by Worthington TUFFSign hi-flow float designs.
